My name is William C. Ernesto, Jr., 20 years old and a resident of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. And this is the story of my dog, Lyka.
We have four dogs at home, and one of them is Lyka. They have been with us for i think five years, i forgot when. But they just turned a year older last Monday, March 5. Whenever dad goes home, Lyka and our 3 other dogs will be barking loudly, happy to see dad at the end of the day.
Last Monday, March 5, at around noon, Lyka got out of our house, without anyone noticing (We're used to her, going out of the house). Knowing her, she would just be back after half an hour later because she'll get thirsty. You'll just find her at the door, barking loudly so you could hear her and let her back inside the house.
But, Lyka didn't return until Tuesday. So, dad (He loves all of our dogs because we once had a dog who saved his life) decided to go to where stray dogs in our city, caught by the Department of Agriculture, are being kept.
Dad was right. Lyka got caught. At first, he didn't recognize her because of her dirty face. She was crying so much when she saw dad (as he told me so) and when he left. Dad was so sad when he told me about it.
He told me that he had a friend who worked there, and that he had told him to take care of Lyka just until Thursday because dad couldn't provide the money amounting to P125 to discharge Lyka and take her back home (payments must be made before you can take your dog back, who has been caught by the Department of Agriculture). Dad told me that Lyka was fed that time with "Yellow Corn" ("Mashaw" as we all call it here).
So, Thursday came. Dad had the money and he was so excited to take her back home. He missed her so much.
But, he was shocked as he got there. Lyka was already DEAD. And as to what they said caused her death, she died out of nothing to eat for 2 days. Dad told me that her eyes popped out and that blood spurted out of her anus.
I cried when I've heard of it. I couldn't believe it. She has been with us for almost five years now. And now, she's gone, and she's never going back. We'll never find her barking at the door again. Even mom, who always get pissed of having them, was so sad to hear that she's gone.
Dad don't work hard just for the family, but also for his dogs. He loves them so much. Even if we still have three dogs at home, we never wanted one of them to get killed, or slaughtered by neighbors who loved to eat dogs.
Lyka, like all of our dogs, suffered illness for so many times already. She suffered hunger for longer weeks. But she still lived. But why is it that they, who had caught her, said that she died of hunger, in just a matter of 2 days? Isn't it unbelievable?
If they're just going to kill the dogs that they've caught, they might just kill them on the spot. Of course they wont do that, thinking that the owners of those dogs would be willing to pay a reasonable amount just to get them back. Its all about the money after all. If you don't have the money, after about three days, you're dog is dead, BRUTALLY.
"Lyka's eyes popped out. Blood spurted out of her anus." Do dogs really die like that if they die of hunger?
You? Do you have dogs at home? If you do, and you accidentally let her out, and he or she got caught by THOSE WHO ARE TASKED TO CATCH THEM, to KILL THEM, and you dont have the money to pay for your dogs life, how would you feel? How would you feel if your dog died and all you have is a STUPID EXPLANATION of what caused his or her death?
Dogs are maybe just animals. But, I dont think they dont deserve to be loved and taken care of. That was so much INJUSTICE to DOGS.
Wherever Lyka might be right now, I hope she's in peace.
Most of all, I hope no more dogs are treated that way in our city, whom I love and adore so much, to whom I pay most of my respect and loyalty. I'm looking forward to that day when stray dogs are no longer killed, but kept, fed well, and loved.

LIFE! About everything that happens in my life, all the realizations that come into thinking. Its about how i manage every little thing that happens. About how we survive all the challenges.
FRIENDSHIP! One of the vital things in my life. Friendship is my second life. I live for my friends, and i fight for them.
FAMILY! About parents and family.
SCHOOL! My frustrations, insecurities, and comments about the most tiring job in my life today, being a STUDENT!
